Government Develops National Roadmap to Promote Physical Activity and Prevent Non-Communicable Diseases

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) contribute to 71% of all deaths in the country, with 19% occurring prematurely. These conditions often have long-lasting effects, imposing both physical and financial challenges on individuals and their families. To address this issue, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with support from the World Health Organization and technical assistance from the Center for Law and Policy Affairs, organized a workshop to develop a roadmap. This roadmap outlines the actions required by various ministries and departments to create an environment that promotes physical activity and exertion, in alignment with the Global Action Plan on Physical Activity.
Sheikh Momena Moni, Additional Secretary of the Global Health Division at the Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, attended the meeting as the guest of honor. The session was chaired by Md. Mamunur Rashid, Joint Secretary of the same division and ministry. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Local Government Division, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, City Corporations, and the World Health Organization. The event took place at a hotel in Dhaka on May 15.
