CLPA Secretary Syed Mahbubul Alam Highlights Need to Strengthen Environmental Court Framework

In a recent interview published in Samakal, Syed Mahbubul Alam, Secretary of Center for Law & policy Affairs (CLPA), emphasized the urgent need to address legal limitations within Bangladesh’s environmental court system.

He noted that despite the existence of environmental courts, their effectiveness remains constrained due to structural and legal barriers. These limitations hinder access to justice for affected communities and weaken enforcement of environmental laws.

Alam stressed that reforms are necessary to make environmental courts more accessible, independent, and capable of delivering timely justice. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring greater public awareness to enhance environmental governance.

The discussion underscores CLPA’s ongoing commitment to advocating for stronger legal frameworks to protect the environment and public health in Bangladesh.
